Three things a passive room turns into
Questions that rise, not shout
Delegates ask from their phones and back each other’s questions. The one the room most wants goes to the stage. The roaming mic and the three loudest voices are retired.
Polls that change the talk
A speaker who asks the room and gets an answer on screen in five seconds will talk differently for the next twenty minutes. That is engagement you can see.
Games every delegate plays

Q&ALive questions
Q&A is where conferences lose the room. So I rebuilt it.
Most conference Q&A is thirty seconds of silence, then a question that is really a speech, then the moderator saying we are out of time. I have watched it from the stage hundreds of times, and it is why I built RoomReader.
Questions arrive in my queue as they are typed. I approve, hold or drop each one, then send the right question to the screen at the right moment, with the asker’s name in a broadcast-style lower third. The speaker sees a good question in type that reads from the back row. The room sees that its questions matter.

WhyThe host and the tool
Engagement is a running order, not a gadget
Software on its own does not engage anyone; a room full of people staring at a poll is still a room full of people staring. The engagement comes from the host: knowing when to call a game, when to put a question on the screen, and when to let a speaker run because the room is with them.
That is why the software is included when I host rather than sold on its own. The tool and the timing come as one.

What is audience engagement at a conference?
The difference between a room that watches and a room that takes part. In practice it is questions the audience actually wants answered, polls that change what the speaker says next, and moments where every delegate does something rather than sits through something.
How does the Q&A work?
Delegates scan a code and ask from their seat, in their own name or anonymously, your choice. They back the questions they most want answered, so the best question rises to the top instead of the loudest. I approve each one before it reaches the screen, and I read it out with the asker’s name in a broadcast-style caption.
Can we run polls and word clouds?
Yes. Multiple-choice polls, word clouds and one-to-five ratings run on the same screen, live, and the results are yours to keep. It is the fastest way to give a speaker a reaction to work with.
Do we get the data afterwards?
Every question, vote and poll response is exported after the event. Organisers use it for the follow-up email, the board report, and next year’s agenda.
Do we need to buy the software?
